The Welsh netball team will welcome world class opposition to Cardiff next month and S4C will be broadcasting two of the team’s matches live.

As part of the team’s 2019 Summer tests, Wales face the Malawi, who are placed sixth in the world rankings, on Saturday 6 July at the Viola Arena in Cardiff. The following day, on Sunday 7 July, Julie Hoornweg’s side are up against Trinidad and Tobago, who are ranked 10th in the world, one place higher than Wales.

Both Malawi and Trinidad and Tobago will be in the UK during July for the Netball World Cup in Liverpool. Although Wales narrowly missed out on qualifying themselves, this is an opportunity to see the national team test themselves against top quality opposition.

It will also be the first time for live netball to be shown on S4C.

Lauren Jenkins leads the S4C presentation team with courtside guest Cerys Bowen providing analysis. Gareth Roberts and Sarah Roberts will provide Welsh language commentary, while English language commentary will be available via the red button service.

S4C Sports Commissioner Sue Butler said:

“Netball has a passionate and sizeable following in Wales and we will see some of the best netball teams in the world come to Cardiff during July.

“The Wales team is at the beginning of an exciting cycle in its development and in these two live televised matches, S4C will be showcasing some of the nation’s brightest netball prospects.”

Both games get underway at 5.00pm, with live coverage starting at 4.45pm on S4C. The matches will also be available to watch live online at s4c.cymru/clic, the Facebook S4C Chwaraeon page (with Welsh commentary) and the Youtube S4C page (with English commentary).

Bydd y ddwy gêm yn cychwyn am 5.00pm, gyda’r rhaglen yn cychwyn am 4.45pm. Bydd y gemau i’w gweld yn fyw ar-lein ar s4c.cymru/clic, tudalen Facebook S4C Chwaraeon (gyda sylwebaeth Cymraeg) a thudalen Youtube S4C (gyda sylwebaeth Saesneg).
